Description
A reference photo is usually at the centre of my work but not always..I normally reduce my personal photos to basically a line drawing in grayscale..( minimum lines and surfaces) so it acts as a simple sketch. The exception being when I purposefully want it to be more photographic. I set my own palette as I work up the painting... I have developed a personalized way of creating visual texturing through a method I call" constructive/destructive brushwork". My objective over the last few years has been to develop a style that incorporates the look and appeal of traditional brushwork but with a natural approach to the media specific difference that digital painting offers... I love to explore the tools that are available to the modern day artist or any artist willing to take advantage of the creative potential that technology has in store for open minded creators of art. Artists that understand and agree that there can be no limitations imposed on the future of creative expression regardless of the chosen medium . I welcome digital painting as the latest newcomer to the painting category of fine art.....and yes we all know that it's not real paint......but other than that, the comparable creative process and the resultant outcome is getting darn close..... after all it's the traditional painter that has helped advance and make digital painting possible....May art creation always remain a stimulating challenge and a true expression of who we have become....

Great work here...didn't know so much could be done with a wacom...well at least not by me! Awesome digital painting!!
Bob Salo replied:
Thank you Francis for your comments....yes alot can be done on a wacom but it sure is frustrating at first trying to control the various brushes as opposed to the brushes trying to control you lol...

Simply stunning shot, Robin! Your techniques and great eye for special art work is very obvious in the love shown for your art in each and every piece I have viewed. It is a thrill and an honor to view your masterfully done pieces of art, and am always awaiting to see any new ones!

This is just beautiful...I can feel the damp ocean breezes and smell the salty air! There is wonderful movement and light in this..almost like being there!

I'm at a loss for words Bob...this is simply beautiful. My Grandfather had a boat like this called "Sea Dog" but someone's cigarette managed to destroy it!
Bob Salo replied:
I so appreciate your comment Cathy.....a shame about sea dog...I love old tugs especially the sound of the engines !!
